What Makes us Better?
CMC Steel South Carolina became a part of the Commercial Metals Company and
its Steel Group in November 1994 with the acquisition of the South Carolina
based Owen companies. The mill was formerly known as Owen Electric of South
Carolina and had begun its operations in 1961. Since the purchase by CMC in
1994, we have made many dramatic changes and upgrades such as:
Danieli 17 stand in-line Rolling Mill in 1999. The Mill is considered one of the finest ever built.
Melt Shop upgrades including a new Ladle Metallurgy Station (1999), 18 ton Tundishes, Withdrawals and Torches on the 4 strand caster (2000)
and a new Mold Cooling System and Lime/Carbon System (2001).
Significant upgrades to our in-plant warehousing include a new Climate Controlled Facility to ensure surface quality.
Rail facilities and plant roads have also been upgraded to improve logistics.
